  • ping! Ask blogroll to update your blog entry.
  • Search 'em all. Searches using Google Search in all listed blogs. Thanks to Turbo for contributing.
  • Configure the number of blogs to show. Blogroll shows 10 entries by default. you can use ?show=[integer] to set the number of posts to show. ?show=full or ?show=0 means show all entries
  • Syndicate. IIIT:Blogroll provides its entries as feeds as well. tune in. FeedBurner feed is also available (by VishuRao).
  • Ignore blogs. Ask blogroll to ignore certain blogs by giving blog name, author name, or blog url in ignore parameter seperated by comas. use &ignore=<string>
  • Memory. New posts since your last visit are flagged as [new]
  • Inlink. Yeah.. its a feature. Blogroll has a high SE rank and an inlink from here really helps.


    History
    Once upon a time in IIIT there weren't many bloggers around and we didnt even know the very few blogs which existed. Manytimes I noticed Jayaram clicking on 'next blog' link on blogger. Well he was vella, but so were we all sometime or other. So I started aggregating the blogs of IIITians.
    IIIT:Blogroll started on Feb 14, 2005 with a page displaying link to blogs of few IIITians. Yeah.. simple and static links to blog. And yeah.. an interface where anyone could enter his blog info and share with others. Well.. slowly it has evolved into a sophisticated blog aggregation page with few hunderd entries and hundreds of daily visitors.

  • Mar 30, 2008 : UTF-8 encoding supported - Readable Hindi and Telugu.
    Thanks to Srijan for suggesting the changes in magpie to support UTF. Hindi and Telugu blogs now no longer show as ???? ???.
  • Jan 16, 2008 : blog title and description from blog, and improvements in ping and feed.
    Srijan requested to pick blog name from blog. Now blog name and description is picked from blog feed, if available. Also gave a little interface to ping page. And corrected the bug which was showing 'A' in feeds. Also the number of blogs has reached 245, while only one fifth are active.

    People can now immediately check if the blog added is working fine or not.

  • Sep 21, 2007 : non-ascii characters supressed
    Non-ascii characters coming from feeds were causing problem in feed validation. So supressed non-ascii characters in feeds. VishuRao wanted to get it work for his phone's feed reader.
  • Apr 09, 2007 : rss feed errors fixed
    Sairam pointed out an error in rss feed generated by blogroll and suggested corrections. The feed is now w3c validated .
  • Dec 19, 2006 : blogspot feed problems fixed
    New blogspot (beta) feeds were incompatible. Chandu pinged for problems in blogrolling his blog. Minor fixing.. new blogspot works fine now.
  • Nov 25, 2006 : search added
    Searching in all listed blogs using Google Custom Search Engine. It was Turbo's suggestion and he provided the CSE setup for it. Actual page of IIIT Blog search is here. Thanks Sandeep, its a cool feature.
  • Nov 20, 2006 : ping! added
    It was a pain to wait for hours to get noticed. Blogroll use to take 3-4 hours to catch new entries from blogs. So a small addon to refresh blog entry on demand.
    A bug in ping! was discovered by Utkarsh (Dec 01, 2006). Fixed.
  • Oct 29, 2006 : Vastu change
    Major look changes to make it look much better than the previous raw table look.
  • Jan 05, 2006 : rss bug fixes
    RSS feed was buggy. Thanks to V Manoj Kumar aka Majjj for pointing that out and fixing it up. Now firefox is able to display it in live bookmarks, the reason why Majjj wanted it to work. Majj also suggested to add "--Author" info in feed title.

    A bit of recursion u see. Feed of feeds. Coz it is easier to read it via feed reader.

    Minor fixes and cleaning. A deployable stable system.
  • May 06, 2005 : sorted display. reached 50 blog entries.
    It was no longer easy to know which blog is updated just by scanning the recent entries. Afterall we had reached 50 entries. So a simple thing - just sort the entries by update timestamp available in feed.
  • Apr 08, 2005 : fetches recent entry
    So far blogroll was showing only links to blog. We didnt know which these are updated. So I did some rss fetch from the blog and started displaying the recent entry from that blog. Helped a lot.

    "There are many bloggers around, and people are always interested to read views of fellow IIITians. Just that we don't know the url. So thought of creating IIIT::blogroll. Blogroll of all IIIT students, for all IIIT students. So Mr blogger do share your blogs with us, by posting your blog entry.
    Thought that i can help Jaya in browsing through the blogs. So that he wont need to use the "next blog" link on blogger anymore."
